I read papers and stuff on the net,
usually music stuff, all the time. I read about people wanting
to sue napster, a company
that allows users to trade mp3 files anonymously. At first, it
was just the industry suing, but now artists themselves are
starting to state their dislike for napster. Metallica, Dr Dre,
and many others have spoken in public about napster, and now, I
shall as well, seeing how I'm a musician and all. Below are a
bunch of stand alone statements, in no particular order.
Mp3s are amazing. They enable you
to listen to an almost CD quality song with only about 5 minutes
of download time. Pretty sweet. That saves me an hour of time
wasted getting to the store.
If I don't like a song I download,
it does stay on my hard drive, to get burned onto a cd. Then I
never listen to it again. What money is an artist losing for me
getting a song that I would never have bought in the first
place, and storing it on CD to never be listened to again.
Without napster or mp3's in
general, I never would have bought the Kittie
CD. Kitte is amazing.
People who love a musician and
don't buy that musician's CD are idiots. Why not? I buy a damn
lot of CDs, which I could easily get the mp3s for and not
contribute to sales. People who are unwilling to dole out cash
for artists that they admire sicken me. If you like an artist,
they deserve your money for the creations that they have
provided you with.
I've got a few of my songs on mp3.com.
So, obviously, I'm not against the format. Spread the music,
'tis my motto. When my album gets released, maybe and hopefully
around fall 2000, I expect people who like the album to buy it.
No matter where you live, you can order it from cheaper than
retail price here.
This way, in return for your money, I can spend more time on a
new album rather than have to spend time at a job. If you do
like the album but don't support it, FUCK YOU.
I upload my whole incomplete album
to many, MANY FTP sites, and are always available on napster
when I'm online. Why, wouldn't this detour my (future) sales?
Probably not. everyone I know buys the CD if it's good.
Mp3s are needed for underground
artists who want to have people experience their music, but have
no means of income to producing a physical CD.
Metallica can suck my dick. Because
of napster, they cant buy that ivory backscratcher they always
wanted. BIg deal. If I made that much money, I wouldn't worry
about it. Plus, if you're Metallica, you've already got way too
many hardcore fans to have a major impact on your CD sales. Take
it as a compliment. You make music for a living, that's a dream
to me.
I hate idiots who have an
interupted transfer on napster, but keep the unfinished file on
their hard drive. That unfinished file gets passed around,
pissing people, like me, off.
Sometimes I keep mp3s I don't like
on my CPU to give to other people, who might be interested, and
encouraging them to buy.
Well, that's it, just a few things
I wanted to state. Mp3s are good, napster could be better, but
because it's not, it sucks. |
